About this place
At lunchtime, start with the katsudon or tonkatsu set meal if you’re not sure what to order at Wahha. Diners who chose the katsudon have praised its tender, easy-to-eat meat, egg cooked just right and homely-tasting miso soup. The tonkatsu set has a distinctive touch: raw onion served alongside the cutlet. One diner described the freshly fried pork, generously topped with sliced onion and sauce, as a winning combination; another enjoyed the way the sweet-and-savoury sauce-soaked cutlet paired with the onion. That onion gives the set meal its own character.
Chicken rice bowls, including chicken mayo, are other options. One diner who tried the fried chicken rice bowl reported pepper-seasoned pieces of karaage, sliced and served over shredded cabbage and mizuna with a sweet-and-savoury sauce. It makes a filling lunchtime alternative to katsudon, with plenty of meat and rice.
In the evening, the menu takes on an izakaya feel, and some diners come specifically for the gyoza. Those who have tried them describe chewy wrappers, crisp, fragrant browning and a juicy filling that spills out with the first bite. The menu also marks the grilled gyoza as “Wahha’s speciality”, making it a natural first order. Alongside them, grilled chicken thigh comes with a choice of salt or sauce, and salt-grilled mackerel is also available. Build the meal around your appetite: share an assortment of pickles as a light bite, then finish with takana fried rice. With beer and highballs on offer, it’s easy to make the food the focus of an evening drink.
